Nobel Prize laureate visits Anhui province

Dan Shechtman, the Philip Tobias Professor of Materials Science at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, an Associate of the US Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory, and professor of materials science at Iowa State University, visited Anhui province to take part in a series of lectures by famous foreign experts from October 12 to 14.


At the welcoming ceremony, Pan Yaqun, head of the Anhui Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, said that leading foreign academics are invited to deliver lectures and communicate with local counterparts in Anhui.

Shechtman visited Hefei University of Technology and met with its president, Liang Liang. He then delivered a speech on technological innovation as the key to world prosperity and peace, and introduced the current state of innovation in western universities. Shechtman is employed as a visiting professor at Hefei University of Technology.


Shechtman also visited laboratories at the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and gave his advice on enhancing future international cooperation. His research is in line with Chinese researchers’ at that institute, and further cooperation may be expected.
