Yanfeng International Automobile Technology Co Ltd – a wholly owned subsidiary of major Shanghai-based Chinese auto manufacturer SAIC Motor, recently signed a contract of land transfer with the local government to build its smart cockpit project in the Lin-gang Special Area park in the Minhang development zone in Shanghai.

The planned Yanfeng smart cockpit center in Lin-gang will create the company's biggest research and export center for intelligent car cockpit products, interior decorations and seat components in the world.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), it is expected that the development orientation of Lin-gang's intelligent new energy vehicles industry will become the leading area for future vehicles.

The output value of intelligent new energy vehicles in the Lin-gang Special Area in Shanghai topped 150 billion yuan ($23.1 billion) in 2021, becoming the first industry valued at over 100 billion yuan in the area since its establishment in 2019.

Projections are that by 2025, the scale of intelligent new energy vehicle operations in the area will exceed 300 billion yuan ($46.22 billion),  accounting for four-fifths of Shanghai's total in the sector. The area will focus on electric chassis, intelligent cockpits, intelligent driving, intelligent cloud services and other fields.
