A section of a pop-up hospital in the Lin-gang Special Area – located in East China's Shanghai city – has been upgraded into a designated hospital for ordinary and severe COVID-19 cases, especially for the treatment of seniors over 80 years old, Xinhua reported on April 23.

A total of 2,000 beds have been upgraded for the new designated facility.

The new hospital is equipped with more professional medical equipment, such as oxygen carriers, blood test labs, emergency treatment facilities and CT scanners.

Along with medical teams from neighboring Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, the nearby permanent Huashan Hospital on April 5 took charge of the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 cases in the Lin-gang pop-up hospital.

As of April 25, the pop-up hospital with 13,600 beds had admitted more than 31,000 patients since it began operations and over 20,000 of them have been discharged.
