A Chinese-British intelligent manufacturing center is set to start operating in the Lin-gang Special Area in East China's Shanghai city.

That follows the launch ceremony for the Sino-British Intelligent Measurement and Quality Engineering Center, which is being operated by the Shanghai Intelligent Manufacturing R&D and Transformation Functional Platform that is based there.

The functional platform – which was founded as an institute in 2015 and given its new name in 2017 – operates R&D sites and industrial workshops in the Lin-gang Special Area. It was one of a number of new bodies formed in Shanghai to encourage growth, providing resident businesses with accessible and reliable innovative technological solutions.

The launch ceremony for the new center took place on Nov 16 in the Lingang Industrial Area in the Lin-gang Special Area.

A letter of appointment for the Chinese and British directors of the Sino-British Center was awarded to Academician Jiang Xiangqian and Professor Yao Zhenqiang.

Handing them the letter was Liu Ping, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization and Xi Lifeng, vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and chairman of the intelligent manufacturing function platform.

At the same time, three joint laboratories established by the Sino-British Center, British group Renishaw, UK group Taylor Hobson and Alicona were unveiled.

After the launch ceremony, the Sino-British Center held the 2021 International Forum on Intelligent Manufacturing and Measurement Technology.
