The city of Shanghai in East China on Oct 22 released the 2021 Shanghai Standardization Work White Paper at one of the events for World Standards Day and also kicked off construction of six pilot standardized technology organization areas.

World Standards Day – celebrated in China – is an event also staged globally that salutes the collaborative efforts of experts worldwide, who develop the voluntary industry technical agreements that are published as International Standards.

The Shanghai Technical Standards Innovation Base (Cross-border Data Circulation) is one of the first of three standardized technology organizations to be established in Shanghai – as well as being the first municipal standardized technology organization in the Lin-gang Special Area, which is located in the city.

Supported by the Lin-gang Special Area Administration, the company leading the establishment of the base is Shanghai Lin-gang Special Area Cross-border Data Technology Co Ltd.

The Shanghai Academy of Quality Management, Shanghai Big Data Co Ltd and others will reportedly also participate in its construction.

It is understood that the innovation base will organize and carry out research, formulate protocols, conduct pilot demonstrations, as well as arrange applications, cooperation and exchanges for relevant industry standards –mainly concerning the cross-border, safe and orderly flow of international internet data.

Focusing on the definition of data ownership, open sharing, transactions circulation, supervision and management in cross-border data flows, the base will reportedly be focused on becoming a new think tank and support platform to promote the standardization of cross-border data circulation.
