The Lin-gang Special Area Administration, Shanghai Lingang Fengxian Economic Development Co Ltd and Medtronic.Inc signed an agreement to build the Medtronic medical science and technology industry base in the Lin-gang Special Area in Shanghai on Oct 12.

Medtronic is a global provider of medical technology, services and solutions. Since entering China in 1989, Medtronic has continuously expanded its operations in the country, established a complete medical technology industry chain, and continuously strengthened local R&D, innovation and talent training.

Medtronic will use its experience of developing medical technology to bring high-end intelligent medical device product R&D and production services to Lin-gang.

Sean Salmon, global executive vice-president of Medtronic said that the signing and implementation of the base will better meet the huge demand for innovative medical devices in the Chinese market.

Zhu Zhisong, secretary of the Party working committee of Lin-gang Special Area, said Medtronic had operated in China for more than 30 years, completed the overall layout of R&D, manufacturing, sales, clinical training, innovation acceleration and venture capital, and created a closed-loop innovation ecosystem. Such a value chain is highly consistent with the deepening reform and opening-up of Lin-gang.

He also highlighted that Lin-gang is actively developing an international biomedical industry cluster – Lingang Life Science & Tech Park, which integrates R&D, production, testing and exhibitions. A large number of high-quality biomedical enterprises have already based themselves there.
