The Lin-gang Special Area in Shanghai held an unveiling ceremony for the new Shanghai Port Northeast Asia Empty Container Transportation Center on Aug 10.

The container transshipment and storage center will be established in the Yangshan Special Comprehensive Bonded Area, to solve the seasonal shortage of containers caused by the imbalance of import and export containers.

It will offer an empty container repair service in the port zone, to accelerate container turnover.

Shanghai International Port Group and Maersk, CMA CGM, Evergreen Marine Corp and other world-renowned shipping logistics companies will work together to build the facility.

The shipping groups are expected to establish a strategic cooperation mechanism to operate the center.  It will be divided into different operations sections, based on the needs of the different shipping logistics companies.

It is understood that its establishment in the Yangshan Special Comprehensive Bonded Zone will give it access to the institutional innovations being made in the Lin-gang Special Area.

In addition, it will be able to form a system operations mode and improve the efficiency of the regional logistics system and shipping resource allocations in both domestic and international markets.
