The Lin-gang Special Area Administration – which runs the Lin-gang Special Area in Shanghai - signed a cooperation agreement with Peking University on March 29, to build the Peking University Shanghai Lin-gang international science and technology innovation center.

The proposed center will be situated in Lin-gang Sci-tech City in the special area, along with other innovation platform projects supported by other first-class universities and research institutes from at home and abroad, including Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Industrial Internet Innovation Center.

Cooperation between universities and local governments is widely regarded as being key to improving the nation's capabilities for scientific and technological innovation.

The innovation center is expected to give full play to the first-rate disciplines and talent resources of Peking University in terms of its materials, chemistry, engineering, physics, medicine and other disciplines. It is also seen attracting top minds and resources from both at home and abroad, so as to develop itself into a first-class innovation platform with international influence.

The view is that it will lead scientific research and industrial development in various relevant fields in China, providing solid innovation support for the development of Shanghai.

For its part, the Lin-gang Special Area will focus on promoting the development of innovation platforms to achieve breakthroughs in key core technologies, striving to produce more original innovation.

Additionally, it will promote the commercialization of first-class scientific and technological achievements, as well as focusing on gathering and attracting outstanding innovative people domestically and internationally by giving full play to the advantages of the new R&D institutions.

Moreover, the special area plans to expend great efforts in the agglomeration, cultivation and transformation of global high-tech achievements made there, as well as actively build a series of first-class innovation centers that aim to set the bar at the highest standards and best levels in the world.
