The Lin-gang Special Area in Shanghai city reportedly held a signing ceremony on March 20 for the first batch of urban functional projects to settle in its  Nanhui new town.

With an investment of about 18.85 billion yuan ($2.9 billion), a total of 12 urban functional projects covering education, medical treatment, the environment, business, culture, sports and tourism are to be developed in Nanhui new town.

Additionally, five brand activities were also signed up to inject more vitality into the development of cultural, sports and tourism industries in the new town.

Shi Jiong, director of the division of planning and natural resources in the Lin-gang Special Area Administration, gave a briefing at the ceremony about the planning of key areas and the situation regarding land supply during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25) in the Lin-gang Special Area and Nanhui new town.

Shi said that Nanhui new town – located in the Pudong new district of East China's Shanghai – will shape an urban landscape with an international style, a sense of the future and environmental charm.

He added that it will create a first-class environment for a high-level and intelligent modern new town that is compatible with the functions of the Lin-gang Special Area.
