The important Chinese New Year — or Spring Festival — will fall on Feb 12, which is an important time for family reunions.

The buoyant Lunar New Year atmosphere is now evident across the country. Traditional costumes will be worn and lucky draws held. Roads in the Lin-gang Special Area in Shanghai in East China have been decorated with lanterns to enhance the festive atmosphere. It is a Chinese custom to put them up during the Spring Festival, as they symbolize family reunions, happiness and prosperity.
