The Lin-gang Special Area in East China's city of Shanghai held a signing ceremony on Feb 3 for 15 biomedicine projects with total investment of 15 billion yuan ($2.3 billion).

A number of heavyweight biomedical enterprises announced they had settled in the Lin-gang Special Area during the ceremony. The projects cover innovative biological drugs, key vaccines, high-end medical devices and other fields.

It was reportedly the first time that so many projects had settled in one go there since the operation of Blue Bay World -- a biomedicine industrial base -- located at the west gate of Lin-gang Special Area last year.

The biomedicines industry is a key field for strategic emerging industries and is one of the four major sectors in Lin-gang. As one of 26 characteristic industrial parks in Shanghai, Blue Bay World has become an important carrier for the biomedicine industry in the area.

Over the past year, the Lin-gang Special Area has successively introduced key projects such as the Shanghai institute of Organic Chemistry at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and WuXi AppTec. To date, nearly 60 biomedicine companies have settled in Lin-gang.

In addition, the Lin-gang Special Area also upgraded its industry support policies to promote the development of biomedicines.

The new policies focus on the research and development of core technologies and products within the biomedical industry.

These include high-end medical imaging, advanced therapeutic equipment, medical biomaterials, medical diagnostic reagents and test devices, new medical technologies and equipment, new biotechnology and related drugs and biological therapy technologies.

According to official data, more than 50 projects have landed in Lin-gang, with an investment of 20.86 billion yuan, since its establishment in August 2019.
