Lin-gang Special Area carried out 12 transportation projects on Dec 23 to better connect the towns, industrial areas and the main urban area.

The projects involve spending 3.42 billion yuan ($522.9 million) on building and repairing 22 kilometers of roads.

According to Zhao Yong, vice director of the division of construction and transportation management of the Lin-gang Special Area Administration, the 12 projects can be divided into three types - backbone road network connecting the main urban area of Lin-gang Special Area and the industrial areas, getting through impassable roads, and repairing roads that are frequently used by residents.

The newly built Road X2 (Lianggang Avenue-Hucheng ring road) is one such example, said Zhao, who added that the road is expected to shorten the time required to travel from Shuyuan town to the main urban area by 20 minutes.

Thirty-one new reconstruction projects and nine repair projects were started in Lin-gang Special Area this year. All the roads involved in these projects are expected to be completed and opened to traffic in the next two years. The area has invested about 19 billion yuan to build 114 km of new roads since its establishment in Aug 20, 2019.
