The Lin-gang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone – located in the megacity of Shanghai – held a commendation conference on Aug 18, to commend 20 skilled workers who were awarded the title of Lin-gang Craftsmen, as well as 20 award nominees, according to area officials.
The 40 skilled workers are from such key industries as integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, civil aviation and biomedicines. Most of them are workers in assembly lines.
The selection of Lin-gang Craftsmen had no restrictions on age, gender, educational background, professional title, or honorary basis. A total of 200 employees from 84 businesses participated in the chase for the title.
Ban Fukui, one of the Lin-gang Craftsmen, is chief engineer of Shanghai Yuxin Electronic Technology Co Ltd. He came to work in Lin-gang in 2019 and is mainly engaged in integrated circuits designs for power management.
In recognition of his achievements, Ban received approval in advance from the management committee of Lin-gang to apply for permanent residence in Shanghai.
"Thanks to the approval, I can work here without distractions and make more contributions to the company," he said.
The craftsman's college at the Lin-gang Special Area Industrial University was launched during the conference.
Officials said it is an online college that will cooperate with key resident companies in Lin-gang to provide support for the lifelong learning and upgrading of workers' technical skills.
The college will build 10 industrial training centers and employ the Lin-gang Craftsmen as instructors.
