The Shanghai Lin-gang Marine High-tech Technology Industrialization Base ("Marine High-tech Park") as early as 2007 took root in the Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, and today, more than 10 years later, it has a relatively mature industrial ecology.
The "blue economy" has become the core of the Lin-gang area's economic development, which in turn has generated success in the Marine High-tech Park.
In the first half of this year, there were more than 100 businesses based in the park, with total tax revenue of 980 million yuan ($141.17 million) and a total output value of 13.2 billion yuan. The Marine High-tech Park is currently home to more than 70 leading high-tech marine enterprises in subdivided fields.
It provides tailored services to help develop enterprises based on their individual stage of growth. For instance, the park's Haike Space provides flexible carrier services, as well as shared offices and experimental resources for startups in their initial stage.
The value of Shanghai's gross ocean product rose from 746.3 billion yuan in 2016 to 1.04 trillion yuan in 2019, according to a statement released by the Shanghai Municipal Oceanic Bureau in June. It accounts for 27.2 percent of Shanghai's GDP and 11.6 percent of the worth of China's gross ocean product. The ocean has become an important strategic resource for Shanghai's sustainable development.
The Marine High-tech Park will continue to build a "closed-loop" organizational structure and industrial ecosystem of scientific and technological innovation and industrial transformation. It expects to expand to 800,000 square meters by 2025, at which time it will house more than 500 enterprises creating more than 18 billion yuan in output and generating more than 1 billion yuan in tax.
