The southern part of Shanghai Pudong International Airport covers around 28 square kilometers and lies to the east of Dongyin River, to the north of S32 Shenjia Lake Expressway-Weishiyi Road-Weichang River, to the west of G1503 Shanghai Ring Expressway, and to the south of Xiayan Road-Shangfei Road.

The southern part of Shanghai Pudong International Airport plans to create an aviation industry functional area and an integrated pilot zone of the national airport industry, to promote "aeronautical manufacturing + aviation service" dual-chain aviation industrial clusters and form a "one core, two wings, one belt, four areas" spatial structure. (To clarify, "one core" means a comprehensive service core for aviation industry, "two wings" refers to two service wings for assembly services and supporting supplies, "one belt" implies a belt-shaped aviation park, and "four areas" means the assembly and supporting industrial zone, the airport service industrial zone, the ecological control zone, and the reserved zone for development.) In addition, it will focus on the development of the civil aviation industry and the modern shipping service industry to propel the construction of large aircraft industrial parks and innovation valleys, and foster entire aviation industrial chains, such as aircraft assembly delivery, operation and maintenance, aviation headquarters, aviation supply, aviation logistics, and cultural services.
