Lin-gang Special Area signs on 2 AI projects at WAIC

Shanghai unveiled a dedicated (artificial intelligence) AI lab on July 11 as the third World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), at which a series of projects were signed and industrial platforms debuted, concluded in the city.

Acting mayor Gong Zheng unveiled the Shanghai AI Laboratory at a ceremony where more than 30 billion yuan ($4.3 billion) in investment agreements were signed. The agreements involved eight AI investment fund projects in Shanghai and 36 industrial projects from leading tech companies such as Baidu and Huawei. Two projects from Lankuaikei and Cambricon will be undertaken in the Lin-gang Special Area.

Lankuaikei Agriculture Development (Shanghai) Co Ltd plans to build a technological research and development center and a headquarters center in Lin-gang, while Cambricon, a smart chip developer, plans to establish a high-end intelligent chip R&D and agile design platform in the area.

Lin-gang Special Area has a strong foundation in the AI industry, and has hundreds of companies involved in basic platforms, chips, application technology, products, facial recognition, voice recognition, autonomous driving, industrial internet, intelligent manufacturing, and more.
