More than 40 companies involved in the integrated circuit (IC) industry have set up operations in Lin-gang Special Area, forming a full IC industrial chain including design, manufacturing, packaging, testing, materials, and equipment, according to the Semiconductor Industry Development Summit held in Lin-gang on June 28.
Since it was established last August, the Lin-gang Special Area has attracted 289 industrial projects costing a total of 252.8 billion yuan ($36 billion) in investment.
Lin-gang Special Area has invested in cutting-edge science and technology fields such as IC, artificial intelligence, biomedicine, aviation, and aerospace.
"During the 14th Five-Year-Plan (2021–2025), investment in the IC industry will surpass 200 billion yuan ($28.5 billion)," said Zhang Jie, high commissioner of the Lin-gang Special Area Administration.
In addition, the Lin-gang Special Area Administration has set up a fund for the IC equipment and material industry to support and provide strong guarantees for the IC industry in Lin-gang.
Shanghai is dedicated to turning Lin-gang's comprehensive industrial IC bases into world-class IC industrial clusters and innovation centers. Lin-gang Special Area is expected to become a leader in the digital economy and IC industry.
