Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone announced a five-year plan (2020-2025) relating to communication infrastructure in the area on April 20.

According to the plan, from 2020 to 2022 Lin-gang Special Area will build a new landing station for submarine optical fiber cables and work to develop more than five applications for 5G + industrial internet intranet to achieve full coverage of gigabit broadband, and from 2023 to 2025, it will achieve continuous 5G coverage across the entire region, and the internet of vehicles will be implemented on all main roads and areas in Lin-gang.

The plan aims to realize the widespread deployment of all kinds of new technology and new applications for communication infrastructure, build a development base for the digital economy in the era of 5G, and carry out the digitalization of all fields.

In addition, the Lin-gang Special Area will be divided into two hubs (an Asia-Pacific information and communication hub and a Yangtze River Delta new infrastructure regional connection hub) and four networks (an optical fiber broadband network, a wireless communication network, an intelligent metropolitan area network with a large capacity, and an internal and external collaborative industrial network). It will also provide clients with computing and content resources, "intellisense" facilities, and space carrying facilities.

The plan will promote the construction of communication infrastructure such as 5G, optical fiber broadband, industrial internet, internet of things, data centers, and edge computing based on the information and communication infrastructure needs of four major focus areas in Lin-gang - smart cities, industrial internet, modern services, and public communication.
