Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone recently announced a three-year action plan (2020-2022) to improve transportation in the area.

The Lianggang Express, which is scheduled to start construction in 2020, will become the most convenient way to travel from Lin-gang to the Pudong International Airport, taking just 15 minutes.

Before the Lianggang Express begins operating, Lin-gang Special Area will set up a bus line that takes just 45 minutes to arrive at the Pudong airport. The bus line will be operational by the end of 2020.

There will be three highways and one expressway – S2, S3, G1503, and the Lianggang Avenue Expressway – linking the Yangshan Deep-Water Port, Lin-gang Special Area, and the central urban area of Shanghai.

The construction of two railways was also included in the action plan. The Shanghai-Nantong Railway (Phase II) will directly connect the Lin-gang Special Area with other provinces and cities, while the Pudong Railway, north of the Xinzhuang and Shanghainan railway stations, will become the primary rail line between Lin-gang and the central urban area of Shanghai.

In order to optimize traffic within the Lin-gang Special Area, six bus lines with a total length of 15 kilometers are being planned as well.

According to an official of the division of construction and transportation management of the Lin-gang Special Area Administration, these lines will be serviced by intelligent trolleybuses with a large passenger capacity, and they will have dedicated lanes to ensure they are able to arrive to their destinations on time.

The T1 line connecting the central urban area of Lin-gang with industrial parks in Lin-gang may begin operating this year.

The T6 line will test out the use of hydrogen energy for powering buses.
