Shanghai Atec Semiconductor Co Ltd in the Lin-gang Special Area recently received a capital increase of 350 million yuan ($49.7 million) from its parent firm, Dagang Co Ltd.

In response to the development of the integrated circuit industry in Lin-gang Special Area, Dagang changed Shanghai Atec Semiconductor into a wholly-owned subsidiary to enhance its strategic position.

According to Dagang, the capital increase will be used to invest in fixed assets and purchase high-end equipment, and Atec Semiconductor in Lin-gang Special Area will become the main platform for Dagang's future high-end IC testing business.

Shanghai Atec Semiconductor provides services related to test program development, design verification, wafer testing, and finished product testing for IC design enterprises, manufacturing enterprises, and packaging enterprises, as well as other value-added services related to wafer and finished product testing.

The test platform of Shanghai Atec Semiconductor can currently test 80,000 wafers and 300 million chips annually at full capacity.

At the beginning of this year, in order to take advantage of the development of the IC industry in the Lin-gang Special Area, Dagang moved much of its productive capacity to Shanghai. The capacity of Shanghai Atec Semiconductor will more than double, and it will focus on the development of high-end testing services.

"More than 40 enterprises involved in the IC industry have gathered in Lin-gang Special Area, creating an industrial agglomeration. We see much potential for cooperation," said an employee of Shanghai Atec Semiconductor.
