Shanghai's first heavy-duty offshore oil drilling platform built this year was successfully delivered to Waigaoqiao marine engineering dock in Lin-gang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone on Feb 18.

The platform is the fifth marine engineering platform delivered since the establishment of Lin-gang Special Area.

The Orient Discovery offshore oil drilling platform is valued at more than 1 billion yuan ($142.6 million), is 70 meters long and 76 meters wide, and is suitable for operating in depths of about 122 meters with a drilling depth of up to 10,000 m.

After changing the flag to Panamanian nationality at the port, the platform was towed to Shenzhen to drill in two gas fields. It will eventually be leased to Russia.
