2nd WLF ends in Lin-gang Special Area

The three-day second WLF closed on Oct 31.
About 65 top scientists from all over the world, more than 10 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, more than 100 young scientists at home and abroad, and media representatives attended the closing ceremony.
At the closing ceremony, the forum released Science and Technology for the Common Destiny of Mankind – the Shanghai Initiative of the Second World Laureates Forum, which reiterates the importance of basic science as the source of social change, emphasizes the concepts of openness, cooperation with the science and technology community still the decisive foundation to support scientific development, and calls for promoting the support of young scientists around the world to build a healthy world science ecosystem. It proposes to let scientists who benefit the future of mankind take more responsibilities, and to create a better science and technology governance model based on this plan.
The president of WLA, Roger Kornberg, announced the results of the forum and thanked Shanghai for its efforts in presenting the WLF. Wu Qing, vice-mayor of Shanghai, made a speech and extended an invitation to all guests to gather in Shanghai in 2020 for the third WLF.
