China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Area Lin-gang Special Area Administration and Shanghai Lin-gang Economic Development (Group) Co Ltd recently reached a strategic cooperation agreement with JD.com to establish an innovation center branch in the Lin-gang Special Area.

The agreement was reached at the Automatic Driving Summit 2019 of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai on Aug 30, 2019.

"The JD Artificial Intelligence (Shanghai) Innovation Center will build a stable, healthy and comprehensive service system for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) industry and start-ups to accelerate the upgrade of AI enterprises and the industry in Shanghai," said Zhou Bowen, the head of JDAI.

The center will follow the path of "2+3".

The "2" refers to the construction of two major technical carriers, namely JD Artificial Intelligence (Shanghai) Intelligence Platform and JD Artificial Intelligence (Shanghai) C2B Service Platform, through which JD's cutting-edge AI technology innovation ability and its practical experience in the transformation from AI technology to industry may be spread first to other areas in Shanghai and then to companies and industries in other cities. These cities may rely on the practical applications in Shanghai to improve the urban management and public services of government, to realize the cross-development of superior industries and the rapid growth of emerging industries, and to promote people-oriented intelligent services.

The "3" refers to the construction of three physical spaces – Shanghai Accelerator Space, Shanghai R&D Center and the Intelligence Exhibition Hall of JD Artificial Intelligence – which will comprise an AI industrial ecosystem in Shanghai. Such an ecosystem will attract and incubate large numbers of AI enterprises to build a whole industry chain covering basic research, technological development, platform support, and industrial development and application of AI.

The path of "2+3" will revitalize the industry chain and help the implementation of intelligent industrial practice to build a whole industry chain of AI in Shanghai ranging from R&D to application, relying on JD's NeuHub AI Open Platform and its abundant scenarios and data.

The Innovation Center will be built in two years into an State-level AI demonstration center with distinctive features and innovative ability.
