Wanxichong industrial park makes impact in Shenzhen

Contracts totaling more than 2.5 billion yuan ($343.65 million) have been signed at an investment promotion conference for Kunming Wanxichong Smart Computing Industrial Park, which was held in Shenzhen, Guangdong province on Nov 21.

The event attracted 100 enterprises in the computing power industry from across China, and resulted in the signing of eight contracts, with a total investment value of approximately 2.77 billion yuan ($380.95 million) for the Kunming park, which is the first industrial cluster in Yunnan province.

In his keynote address, Wang Bing from Yunnan Provincial Bureau of Statistics said the park aims to cater to provincial markets, facilitate the transfer of industries from eastern China, and expand its reach into South and Southeast Asia.

Chen Jun, deputy director of the Kunming Municipal Bureau of Statistics, announced plans to introduce a range of incentives and support measures centered on intelligent computing, complemented by general-purpose and supercomputing capabilities. He emphasized the city's commitment to strengthening the innovation, industrial, financial and talent ecosystems, and applying intelligent computing technologies to plateau agriculture, biopharmaceuticals and smart tourism.

Zhou Yanni, deputy head of the Administrative Committee of Yunnan Provincial Digital Economy Development Zone, said the park has already attracted leading telecom operators in China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile.

Also at the conference, Kunming University of Science and Technology proposed establishing the Yunnan Artificial Intelligence Industry-Education Alliance. This initiative aims to enhance collaboration among governments, universities, industrial parks and enterprises, fostering the integration of artificial intelligence with education and accelerating the development of Yunnan's AI industry.
