US exchange student explores Nanjing's cultural charm
This year, Brad, an exchange student from Northeastern University in the United States, spent four months living with a local family in Nanjing while studying at Nanjing University. Immersing himself in Chinese daily life, Brad shared meals and traditions with his host family, creating lasting memories.
When asked about his favorite symbol of Jiangsu culture, Brad mentioned the Nanjing City Wall. "My host family and I often went for walks in the park or along the wall after dinner," he said.
Brad was particularly impressed by how the wall blends history with modern needs. In summer, fans are placed under the archways to help visitors cool off. "It's amazing," Brad remarked. "The wall retains its ancient essence while adapting to people's needs today."
To Brad, Nanjing embodies a seamless blend of past and present, a sentiment he finds especially striking on the city wall. "Standing on centuries-old bricks while looking out at the skyscrapers is such a unique experience," he noted.
Though he's already experienced much of Jiangsu's cultural richness, Brad acknowledges there is still much more to discover. He plans to return to China next year, eager to delve deeper into the historical and cultural treasures of Jiangsu.
