Xuzhou Medical University celebrates 20 years of international education

Xuzhou Medical University marked the 20th anniversary of its international student education program on Nov 8 with an exhibition and the 2024 International Cultural Festival. The event welcomed over 400 international students from 41 countries, celebrating the university's growth in global education since launching its undergraduate program for international students in 2004.

Over the past two decades, the university has continually expanded its international education, establishing the School of International Education in 2011 and initiating graduate programs in 2012. XZMU has trained over 700 medical graduates, with 93 percent from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Today, XZMU is recognized for its high-quality education, emphasizing clinical practice and research skills. XZMU has collaborated with universities like the University of Glasgow and Cardiff University in the last five years to train faculty members.

Additionally, administrators have attended programs at the University of York to strengthen English proficiency and intercultural communication skills. At the same time, the university has hosted more than 60 workshops and lectures focused on medical education and international curriculum development.

The university has recently forged new partnerships with institutions such as Chonnam National University in South Korea, Belarusian State Medical University, and Lampang Rajabhat University in Thailand.

XZMU also participates in international alliances, including the China–Central and Eastern European Countries University Consortium and the South and Southeast Asia Medical Education and Service Alliance. Furthermore, the university has established an internship base for international students at JFD Hospital in Liberia.
