Nantong Vocational University's international students explore traditional Chinese culture
A group of international students from the School of International Cooperation Education of Nantong Vocational University embarked on a cultural journey into the world of Peking Opera on Feb 11.
They visited an opera school founded in 1919 in Nantong to explore the elegance of this traditional Chinese art form. During the visit, the students received a comprehensive introduction to Peking Opera, including its intricate facial makeup and elaborate costumes. They then had the opportunity to don Peking Opera attire, learn characteristic body movements, and practice the melodious vocal styles.
Nantong Vocational University currently has 141 international students who are from countries spanning from Namibia to Myanmar and Pakistan. These students are enrolled in disciplines such as electronic information engineering, economics and management, and mechanical engineering.
Zhi Mingyuan, a teacher at the School of International Cooperation Education, revealed that during this winter holiday, 91 international students stayed in Nantong. In response, the university organized a series of vibrant activities for them, including communal meals and mountain biking excursions. Prior to the Chinese New Year, the students also engaged in traditional New Year activities such as paper cutting, and lantern making.
"We hope that through these diverse activities, international students can immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere of the Chinese Spring Festival while deepening their understanding of China's current economic and social development," said Zhi.
