Organized by six institutions, including the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial Government and the Jiangsu Overseas Friendship Association, the event is aimed at inspiring students from across the world to learn Chinese and promote Chinese culture, said Yang Chao, chargé d'affaires of the Chinese embassy in Hungary.

The writing competition has been held for six consecutive years and received over 56,000 essays by students from about 47 countries. Five selections of excellent works have since been published.
