Nanjing University speeds up construction on Suzhou campus

Construction on the east area of Nanjing University's Suzhou Campus advanced recently, with construction on teaching buildings and a canteen getting started, local media outlets reported.

The teaching buildings, which cover a total area of 81,000 square meters, will have five floors above ground and one underground. It will be designed with conference halls, terrace classrooms, and teachers' offices. The buildings' external walls also followed Nanjing University's traditional design of red window frames and grey bricks.

The school canteen has three floors, spanning a total area of 7,000 sq m. It will be designed with an outdoor theater to meet students' and teachers' dining needs in the open air.

With construction on student dormitories having already started, the east area of the campus is expected to be completed and put into operation in September 2022.

The west area of the campus, which covers about 700,000 sq m, will have a library, an office building for administrative staff members, and teaching buildings for the schools of artificial intelligence and information technology, functional materials and smart manufacturing, chemistry, biology, medicine and health engineering, as well as Earth sciences and future environment.

Nanjing University is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China. The new campus marks Suzhou's determination to strengthen its higher education and realize more university-industry cooperation.
