A group of students from Bangladesh, who are studying at Nantong College of Science and Technology, experienced the traditional Chinese folk art of dough modeling in Nantong, Jiangsu province, Jan 6.

The craft, an old Jiangsu tradition that has been listed as a local intangible cultural heritage, brought the students of electromechanical and traffic engineering to a new world of artistic and cultural immersion.

They were guided by their fellow schoolmates, who have practiced dough modeling for years, and flexed their fingers at kneading and rubbing the dough, using different tools to cut and carve, and shaping the colorful dough into various styles that reflect diverse Chinese cultural elements.

The students said they learnt the skills of dough modeling and experienced its charm, making more meaningful their celebration of Minor Cold, or the 23rd solar term of the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms which began on the same day.

The weather and climate situation during Minor Cold is believed by many Chinese to be a predictor of the weather in the following spring.
