The fluent English lecture delivered by police officer Wang Qi on Chinese traffic regulations grabbed the attention of international students at Jiangsu University in Zhenjiang, the Yangtse Evening Post reported on Sept 27.
The lecture, or more like a campus orientation, involved the participation of more than 100 international students.
They gave a thumbs-up to Wang's briefing – which was rendered in fluent English with various videos and pictures – and said they were briefed on practical traffic regulations and safety tips in a simple, efficient way.
The police officer's popularity continued as over 60 students asked to be friends with him on WeChat, a widely-used Chinese social app.
The students said Wang's fluency in English could bridge many cultural gaps and helped them better accommodate to campus life.
Wang's talks on traffic regulations over the past five years have taken place some 20 times now, making him a friend and "star" among international students.
Jiangsu province in recent years has attached growing importance to international student management work. Universities across the province usually hold lectures and activities to increase the students' safety awareness and enrich their campus life.
