Suzhou, a city in the southern part of Jiangsu province, has long been famous for its canals, classical gardens, and mouth-watering delicacies, as well as for its long-standing and well-established silk culture.

On March 9, a group of 35 international students from the Suzhou Institute of Trade and Commerce, mostly from Russia, Mongolia, Indonesia, Cambodia and Malaysia, took a visit to the local silk museum to learn about the history of silk in the city.

At the Ancient History Pavilion, the students were introduced to various silk relics, models and pictures recording the country's thousand-year silk civilization. They had close interactions with baby silkworms and got to know how the worms are involved in making natural silk. The hall exhibiting all kinds of ancient looms and traditional handicraft workshops took the students back to the era of the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911), while the precious brocade in different colors received admiration from the visitors.
