A large group of students from Huaide College, Changzhou University were affected by information leakage, chinanews.com reported on Sept 12.
About 2,600 students from the Class of 2018, who were yet to engage in the labor market, were found to be employed by two local insurance companies and even working there for half a year.
Jing Xiaobing, an official from the school, said the students' personal information were stolen and were illegally used by companies for employee salary declaration, mainly for tax evasion.
He was also amazed by the leakage of the information of such a large group of students and said there might be various possibilities of information leakage, such as the students applying for a bus card, buying medical insurance, and paying tuitions.
"But one thing we are certain of is that the leakage is not a result of cyber hacking," Jing said.
Local police got involved in the case and two suspects were under interrogation.
