A regional elimination stage of a VEX robotics competition opened in Suzhou, Jiangsu province on Aug 25-26, tasking teams of students to design and build robots to play against each other.

The first such game-based engineering challenge to take place in Jiangsu, the competition was organized by the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology in an appeal to meet the growing need for innovators, thinkers, and problem solving leaders.

More than 800 primary, middle and high school students from Suzhou and peripheral areas took up the challenges while also enjoyed the excitement and accomplishment of building and programming robots.

They applied their classroom STEM skills in an enthralling way, bringing to life what they had learned through their world-leading science, technology, engineering and mathematics based education.

Winners will advance to provincial, national, and even international levels. The competition will culminate at the VEX Robotics World Championship next April.

In the face of an unprecedented demand for innovative minds, the classroom STEM concepts rose to fame for offering engaging, affordable and powerful opportunities to students and challenging them to learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, and communications.

Jiangsu has always highlighted science and innovation and education in those areas has forefront priority. The province encourages students to learn through exploration in an interdisciplinary way.
