A forum held by the Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University to discuss the prospect of higher education in China in the era of artificial intelligence wrapped up in Beijing on Saturday.

The event attracted nearly 400 educational experts, alumni of the university, high school students and their parents.

Xi Youmin, executive president of XJTLU and vice president of the University of Liverpool, pointed out that the concept of "ability" should be updated in face of the near future age of AI and robotics.

"The educational mode prevailing in the country is in dire need of reform," he said. "Actually, we are required to reflect on education, reshape teaching methods and redefine our university."

Established in 2006, the Suzhou-based joint venture aims to be a research-led international university in China, which cultivates global citizens with cross-cultural leadership skills by making full use of its domestic and overseas resources.

Xi added that XJTLU is committed to the improvement of higher education and the exploration of new models for higher education in China, which includes innovative ways of educating international elites, building an academic community shared by both the university and society, as well as developing an original type of campus.

Outstanding alumni also delivered speeches to share their study experience in XJTLU and the forum also offered students services to introduce them to the admission policies of the university.
