When a tea cultural festival kicked off in Jurong, Jiangsu province on April 15, a group of students from Kenya, Indonesia, Tajikistan and the Republic of Congo immersed themselves in the world of Chinese tea culture and tried their hands at picking and making distinctive local teas.
Jurong, which since the ancient Sui Dynasty (581-618) has gained wide fame for tea growing, is now most famous for Changqing tea, or evergreen tea, which is named in commemoration of the revolutionaries and patriots who with unswerving spirit saved Jurong from the turbulent times of the last century.
Foreign students were introduced to the method of picking the tender leaves and were taught the traditional hand-stir-frying method by tea masters.
