Jiangnan University in Wuxi moved up one spot to rank 58th among the nation's top 100 universities, according to the only national ranking published by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
The ranking measures the university's quality of education and training, as well as the prestige of the faculty and the quality of their research. It does not rely on surveys or university data submissions.
ARWU uses 10 objective indicators to rank the nation's top 100 universities: quality of students (30%), alumni employment (10%), number of research papers (10%), quality of research papers (10%), number of highly cited papers (10%), number of highly cited scholars (10%), social donation income (5%), enterprise scientific research funds (5%), technology transfer income (5%) and proportion of foreign students (5%).
Tsinghua University in Beijing tops the list, followed by Peking University, also in Beijing, and Zhejiang University in Zhejiang province. Nanjing University, ranking 7th, is the only university in Jiangsu province to make the top ten.
A total of 17 universities from Jiangsu province are on the list.
