School ground bullying has become a serious issue in China; any bullying in childhood can have a serious and enduring effect on physical health.

The Chinese government has taken action to fight the scourge. In December 2017, the Education Ministry, Public Security Ministry, and nine other central government departments jointly published an action plan requiring those responsible for repeated bullying in primary and middle schools to be transferred to reformatory schools.

Indications are that schools should pay more attention to taking all necessary measures to prevent bullying rather than punishing those responsible afterwards. Those children who engage in bullying are also in need of psychological guidance and help.
