Mboungou Hinga Jesus Gildas, a student from Jiangsu Food and Pharmaceutical Science College (JFPC), won the popularity award at the 2017 “Shared Joy in Jiangsu” Foreigners Singing and Talent Competition in Nanjing, Jiangsu province on Dec 6, 2017.

The Congolese young man, who started dancing at the age of seven, amazed the audience with his street dance performance to win the top prize through online voting.

The popularity award is one of the most anticipated segments of the annual competition hosted by the Jiangsu Provincial Government and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education.

Some 1,000 competitors from countries including the US, Sweden, Russia, Sri Lanka, Cape Verde, Bahamas, Guatemala and Australia participated in the eliminations, with only 150 of them making it to the finals.

Gildas said the open and easy-going atmosphere at JFPC encouraged and inspired his frequent exchanges with other dancers.

He described his living and studying at JFPC as enjoyable, noting “I even don’t want to go back to Congo”.
