School Maker Festival inspires students' creativity

The first School Maker Festival of Wuxi Liangxi district was held in Taying Middle School on Dec 17.

A total of 450 students from 43 primary and middle schools in Liangxi district of Wuxi took part in five segments of the festival, including competitions on robots, innovative products, innovative programming, 3D pen printing works and applications.

At the executive meeting of the State Council, China's Cabinet, on Jan 28, 2015, Premier Li Keqiang pledged to establish a new platform for innovation and cultivate a "maker culture".

Maker education gathers science, technology, programming, arts and math, aiming to develop students' imagination, creativity and help them learn the culture of do-it-by-yourself.

"Smart life" was the topic for the competitions on innovative products and programming, urging students to focus on the convenience and joy brought by smart technologies.

Students who took part in the 3D pen printing work competition should make an original work within three hours. Innovative pen pots, compasses and other 3D items showed the creativity and wisdom of the students.

The maker culture product exhibition was held during the festival. Students can experience 3D pen painting, and make block robot football games during the festival.

Liangxi district of Wuxi has built 20 maker education bases focussing on maker culture education.
