The youngsters are well educated by their experienced teachers, whose average age is 53. They have all been teaching for decades at the school which is about 40 kilometers away from the nearest large town.

Though dedicated to their careers, the teachers are also concerned about the school’s future, as no first-grade student have been admitted for the new semester.

This is due to the ever-increasing wave of rural people moving to live and  work in developed cities. Many parents choose to take their children with them to the cities and help them pursue further studies there.

Fandun, a remote area on the borders of Jiangsu and Anhui province, is definitely on the emigrant side of this wave.
