Jiangsu University opens a summer school on Aug 6, inviting postgraduates from China and abroad to sharpen their expertise in intelligent laser manufacturing. [Photo/ec.js.edu.cn] 

Postgraduates from China and abroad are sharpening their expertise in laser manufacturing this week at Jiangsu University in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province. The cutting-edge program runs from Aug 6 to 16. 

A total of 100 students are taking part in the summer school, including visitors from countries including Ghana and Bangladesh, as well as scholars from renowned domestic colleges like Southeast University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Shanghai University, Zhejiang University of Technology, and Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics. 

The course will include lectures and classes designed to broaden the students’ understanding and inspire their creativity on a variety of subjects, including the technology of laser micro/nano manufacturing and its applications, and the increasing usage of lasers in the aviation industry.

They will also be able to try their hands at a number of advanced manufacturing techniques, such as 3-D printing parts, cleaning ultra-pulse laser molds and laser shock peening aeronautical blades. 

They can also get hands-on experience through a two-day visit to local companies like Suzhou Tianhong Laser Co, a laser equipment manufacturer with the most complete product coverage and the longest history in East China.
