The beauty and culture of Shexian county in East China's Anhui province has proven to be a powerful lure for Chinese people, including those from Hongshan College of Nanjing University of Finance and Economics, who finished their five-day cultural exploration trip on July 17.

The Yuliang ancient village, located to the southeast of Shexian county, was the group's first stop. The village was named after its close resemblance to a fish, while gaining wide fame by its well preserved ancient buildings, streets and docks, most of them being put up in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911).

Differing from the traditional Hui-style architecture featuring white walls and black tiles, Yuliang village boasts wooden complexes - with delicate carvings and concrete structure - and it has witnessed an emergence of local merchants, who were believed to have reflected China’s business and social life.
