An oral defense on engineering training  marked the end of a month-long summer school held at the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) on July 14.

As an annual event inviting students studying at NUAA’s global partner institutions, this year’s edition attracted 36 youngsters from UK’s University of Edinburgh, Queen’s University of Belfast and Manchester Metropolitan University, Sweden’s University West, and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.

The students were treated to an integration of cultural immersion and engineering trainings, which included a brief introduction to Chinese culture. They took courses such as  traditional Chinese calligraphy, painting, and language, as well as specialized technological practices on 3D printing, non-traditional machining, and rapid prototyping.

They got an in-depth  understanding of Chinese culture and Nanjing’s history by visiting several cultural sites, such as the Nanjing Museum, Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum and the Confucius Temple.

The students also tried their hands at making dumplings and how to prepare popular Chinese dishes, like fried eggs with tomatoes.
