An admission officer from Hofstra University, Qiu Ying, pointed out the school’s advantage in business and engineering studies, as well as its intention to promote its international image by accepting more leading Chinese students with a preferential award of $30,000 every year.

Officers from other universities also described several points of interest in admissions, such as their schools’ greater concern over students’ reading and math capabilities than their language fluency.

As it was the first recruitment fair targeting US universities, officers from the two sides both had high hopes. Huang Kan, director of the international division of Nanjing No 1 Middle School, regarded it a good platform for connecting Chinese students and US officers.

“It is the same as college graduates seeking jobs in the talent market,” he said.
