Nantong College of Science and Technology joined up with a community in Nantong, Jiangsu province on March 29, to stage a Beijing Opera performance.

A pair of Beijing Opera masters performed for the students, who were also taught how to freehand paint opera masks.

“Facial makeup is one of the most beloved parts of Beijing Opera,” said Rong Meijuan, an art teacher at the college.

Feng Wei (Chinese name), an overseas student from Laos, also shared his country’s drama culture with the other students.

Pu Xiaodong, secretary for the local community said, “As World Theater Day approaches, this activity aims to promote Beijing Opera and introduce foreign students to the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture.”
