With the change of seasons imminent and a buoyant mood in the air, the College for Overseas Students at Yangzhou University, located in Jiangsu province, has welcomed a new group of international students for the semester.
Sympathetic to the difficulties overseas students often face when adjusting to life in China, teachers and students volunteered to help out and make sure the transition ran as smoothly as possible. The volunteers carried out airport pickups, visa extensions, physical examinations, and university registration.
The students arrived from countries all over the world including Finland, South Korea, Colombia, and Kyrgyzstan with many expressing their appreciation for the support showed by the university volunteers. The first year students got a taste for authentic Yangzhou cuisine on the first night as they sat down to dinner with new friends.
Another praiseworthy aspect of the organization is the language partner program that sees new students paired with a Chinese student. The idea is that the local Yangzhou student can not only show the newcomer around campus and give language help, but also offer insider tips on what it is like to live in the city.
If the start of these new students’ experience in China is anything to go by, the international students are sure to have a full and rewarding time at Yangzhou University.
