Intl students experience festive celebrations in Yangzhou

A group of 35 international students from Yangzhou University in Jiangsu province immersed themselves in the joyous atmosphere permeating the city of Yangzhou, as they joined the local residents on Feb 9 to celebrate the Lantern Festival.
Upon arriving at the Lotus Pool Community, the students and were greeted by riddles hanging on festive red lanterns. As a test of their Chinese proficiency, the students brainstormed for answers to the Chinese brain-teasers.
The colorful lanterns, shaped like flowers, crabs, golden fish and roosters were eye-catching. The students enjoyed themselves lighting the lanterns, as well taking photos.

Elaborately made paper-cutting works of the Chinese character chun (春), were presented as a gift to the locals from students, extending their best wishes to Yangzhou residents for next year.
In return, the students were rewarded with the popular festive dish, yuanxiao (glutinous rice balls stuffed with a unique vegetable filling). They even tried their hands at making some.
