A group of French and Canadian students were given an unforgettable introduction to contemporary China and Chinese culture this summer when they attended a summer camp held at Nanjing Normal University from July 10 to Aug 12.
The group, which included 14 French and seven Canadian students, were treated to a packed itinerary of classroom-based lessons and excursions during the camp.
NNU also gave the students a crash course in Chinese culture over the course of the month-long trip, including introductions to Chinese film, folk music, kung fu, paper cutting and calligraphy.
Students from the Confucius Institute in Alsace, France also had the opportunity to visit some of Beijing's most iconic sights, such as the Palace Museum, Great Wall, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven and Tian'anmen Square, as well as Nanjing venues like Nanjing Museum, Nanjing Confucius Temple, Xuanwu Lake and the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum.
And the visitors gained real insight into daily life in China through a series of homestays organized by the university with local families in Nanjing.
Though the summer camp was short, the students considered it an unforgettable experience. At the closing ceremony, students expressed their gratitude and best wishes to their hosts at NNU.
