National university student football finals kick off in Nanjing

The finals of the 2015-2016 China University Football League (CUFL) kicked off at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics on July 9.
Zhu Weiguo, vice chief of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, attended the opening ceremony and announced the event open.
Founded in 2000, CUFL is the only university student football competition recognized by the Ministry of Education with wide participation across the whole country.
With the season lasting 10 months, covering 32 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, the annual event attracts over 1,000 teams with more than 25,000 players taking part in some 1,500 matches.
This year’s finals will play host to 16 teams contending from four divisions covering China’s southeast, southwest, northeast and northwest, led by Donghua University in Shanghai, the Armed Police College of CAPF in Chengdu, China University of Geosciences in Beijing and Inner Mongolia University in Hohhot respectively.
The teams were drawn into four groups which will compete in round-robin matches to be held from July 9 to 11, knockouts from July 13 to 14 and the championship game on July 16.
